Why Pay More? Taking Your Permit to Carry Course Shouldn't Break the Bank
How much should a Minnesota Permit to Carry course cost? The truth is, getting a "Permit to Carry a Firearm" in Minnesota can be very expensive and for some folks it can be too expensive and they go unprotected. The cost for that course is left up to the individual training organization, yet most of these organizations price their classes at $100, $150, or even $200. At Plane Cents Self Defense (PCSD), we believe that it’s your right to obtain a permit to carry a firearm and that you shouldn’t be “priced out” of that right.
Unlike several other states that only require that citizens be "law abiding" in order to carry a firearm, Minnesota requires that potential applicants attend a "Minnesota Permit to Carry a Firearm" course conducted by an organization certified by the BCA. So what exacty do you get for $75 from Plane Cents LLC? You'll be taught all of the key things that will keep you out of trouble in Minnesota, including the three key things that the state requires us to teach including: Instruction in the fundamentals of pistol, use Instruction in the legal aspects of firearm possession carry and use including the rules governing the use of deadly force, and an actual shooting qualification. In addition to those topics, we'll also provide you with the appropriate instruction and certificate that you'll need if you'd like to apply for your Utah permit which when combined with your Minnesota permit will allow you to carry in 31 states.
About Plane Cents Self Defense
Plane Cents Self Defense is responsible for training thousands of students
since the passage of the Minnesota Citizen's Personal Protection Act in
2003. Our reasonable prices, instructor experience, and energetic classes
lead
to hundreds of student referrals year after year! Our Permit to Carry class
is approximately 6- 8 hours long, and combines a variety of training materials
including a PowerPoint presentation and "hands on" with dozens
of firearms and other pieces of gear. Our range qualification is low stress
and is meant to demonstrate your safety and competence with a firearm and
is not meant to establish a threshold not required by the law. I was privileged
to have a sit in by the person that over see's the permit back ground checks
at Carver county on 5/26/2010. I was told it was just a random check.
I was worried. Well I did very well and got her blessing. I have had numerous
Sheriff
deputies
and
also many police officers form various departments sit in as well over
the years. We always get a positive report. We just do a good job.
About Our Website
One thing you'll notice about our website is that we like having a dialogue with our prospective and past students, including filling you in on our thoughts and what we've been up to lately. We might not look as fancy as eBay, but then again we're not trying to sell you a Mercedes or a piece of toast that has the image of Jesus on it. We're just trying to provide a good product at a price that doesn't break the bank. We might even occasionally miss the spell checker as we keep our website up to date (for example, we recently listed a class in "Boomington" instead of "Bloomington" but we thought that one was actually kind of funny). Then again if a misspelled word here or there really bothers, you we can direct you to a few other training organizations who will provide pretty good spelling for a mere $50 extra. If you want some really nice grammar it'll cost you an extra $125. It's your choice but we're betting that the extra $125 would buy a lot of practice ammunition.
About Joe Penaz, Director of Plane Cents, LLC
In
addition to being listed with the BCA as a "certifying" organization,
I am also certified by the NRA for the following courses: Personal Protection,
Basic Pistol, Refuse To Be A Victim, and Range Officer. I’ve had more than
200 hours of formal firearms training, including annual visits to FrontSite,
and I’m a Minnesota Board of “Peace Officer Standards and Training” (POST)
Certified Range Qualifier. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg about
who I am. Like most of my students my interests are far and wide. If you also
share an interest in any of the topics below I’d love to trade stories
about our joint interests. Does any of this make me a better qualified firearms
instructor? Probably not, but I think it does make me a more interesting one.
I am the proud owner of a new Dyna Wide Glide, my third new Harley in 30 years. My first Harley was a 1979 new Sportster, then a new 1980 FLH. My wife and I toured the Colorado rocky mountains on that second bike for two weeks with nothing but some clothes and a S & W 659 .357 magnum. Since then, I’ve been to Sturgis 3 times. Marcia came along this year. 10 hours on the back of a Wide Glide not a FLH, this is one tough lady. If your cycle club wants a training on location I’m your man! I got mine from Crow River Harley-Davidson Http://www.CrowRiverHD.com you should too! Talk to Rodney or Becky, cool people.
What’s Amsoil you say? If
you have to ask, you must not ride a bike. I became an Amsoil dealer when it
saved my engine at Sturgis. I was in
a parade there and the temp was 116 degrees in the shade going 5 MPG stop and
go for almost two hours. I saw some bikes overheat and start smoking,
but not mine! Harley
owners swear by the stuff.

Marcia and I go to
Front Site Firearms Training Institute in Las Vegas regularly. If you’ve
ever
told
yourself that “someday” you’d like to try something like Front
Site, you won’t regret it. We just got back in
May 2010. I
am
a
graduate multiple
times! This is not an easy task. We have planned
another trip this fall with some friends. Go to for info. www.FrontSite.com My
wife and I are Diamond lifetime member's of Front Site (
as high as you can get) call me about membership and deals I may have some deals
for you.
I
spend
a
lot
of
time and money to walk the walk and talk the talk. I am heading out for a 4 day
M16
select fire course this fall, 3000 rounds will be fired! Ask your
potential instructor what are your
qualifications to teach me to shoot?
I
am a certified Glock Armorer and have my own Glock repair facility. I stock
a lot of hard to
get Glock parts, and can install them for you while you wait. The gun does
not walk on water but I feel real its real close! It does shoot under water
however. I have a lot of models in various calibers, so if you want to try
one out let me know when you
take the course.

I teach guitar, piano, voice and music theory. Ok I might not look like I do, but I do, really! I play the blues and was in a band that played 50s and 60s rock and roll (and of course, because of me, we also played the Blues). I went to McPhail college of music, and I played in the college electric guitar orchestra. No, not the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), just the electric guitar orchestra.

I am a certified ABC bowling instructor and was the bowling coach on my son’s
bowling team in high school. I bowled in tournaments for three years and was
at one time on four teams four nights a week (don’t ask Marcia about that
one). I have a bowling ball drilling machine in my basement and a small Proshop,
and I still drill balls for my friends only don't worry
I have never ever tried to sell a bowling ball at my class.
My
best scores on record was 299 several times, but never a 300. However my son
who I
taught
to
bowl has thrown several 300s and a 870. That’s a 300, 279 followed by a
221
in a high school tournament. Show
off. I am so proud!!! I am back doing lessons again,

I’m an instrument rated pilot and aircraft owner. I have
a few stories to share here as well, including losing two engines in flight!
If
you
like close ones go here I almost died this day.

I’m a licensed Bail Bondsman (I can be there if you’re arrested
to bail you out!) and I’m also a “Fugitive Recovery Agent”.
This means I regularly find myself in “condition orange”and
have developed situational awareness to a fine art. I enjoy sharing these stories
in class so that we can discuss ways to avoid the types of situations
that I must put myself into weekly!

I’m a dive coordinator scuba divers license, professional
scuba diver . I have done a lot of ship wreck diving in lake superior in
depths over
100
feed
deep. I also ice dive.
I
haven't quite figured out how to carry while scuba diving, but I'm giving it
some serious thought, and will let you know if I put something together in my
shop.

I hold a class 01, 02, SOT, 07 Federal Firearms License (machine guns) as
a dealer and gun manufacturer, developing enhancements and parts for light
machine guns.
Ask me about giving one of these firearms a test run after class! Believe me,
it’s
an experience you won’t forget!
Ammo Shortage! Free Ammo. We Can Help...
Due to the shortage of ammo if you cannot find ammo for the shooting portion of the class, we have several .22LR semi auto pistols for you to use to qualify with. We also have a good supply of .22LR ammo for sale! Don't let the ammo shortage stop you from choosing PCSD as your trainer. We still encourage you to use the gun you will carry but offer this as a last resort so you can get your permit. Right now we will supply the ammo (.22LR) for the qualification portion of the class if you choose free.
Who You Gonna Call if You Get Arrested? Call Joe!
I can be there to train you for carry, teach you to shoot, and I'll even be there if you are arrested after a legal defensive shooting! As licensed bail bondsman, I can help you through the process and get you back home where you belong! Just one more reason why you should choose us over other courses out there. We can cover you from all angles.
Why do I carry a gun?
"When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight,
but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I
cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but
because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those
who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who
would do so by force. It removes force from the equation...and that's why
carrying a gun is a civilized act."
-- why the gun is civilization by Marko Kloos
A chance to try a gun free to help you chose your carry gun!
Choosing the right gun to carry is an important decision. Women especially need to try out a variety of guns for carry. Marcia carried 4 guns before she found one that she really likes and is comfortable with. We have a variety of guns for you to try to help you choose your carry handgun. You can rent guns at Bills Gun Shop (pretty expensive), or may be able to use a .22 or revolver through other instructors. No other instructor we're aware of offer the variety and quality of guns that we do at no charge. Just another reason to use Plane Cents Self Defense for all your gun training needs. See the list below for guns we have to try out! No other instructor has this selection of guns for you to try.
